CS-80 Calibration Part 8: Tremolo/Chorus
This step is also kind of straight forward. The OE1 and OE2 boards have to be taken out together.
All VCA levels on all M-boards should already be adjusted properly before doing this part.
Otherwise there will be different readings on Step 4 (Modulation VCA Gain) every time a key is hit, all depending on the VCA level of that voice board currently playing. This will make it hard to adjust, because of ending up with different levels.
Step 2 where I was asked to adjust between 7 - 12.5µs for lowest noise is not clear to me. Besides some variation in the idle modulation I didn't hear any noise change or noticed anything I should watch out for. I only started to hear some noise when I was outside of that range. I just chose the idle modulation I liked best. :)
After I finished calibrating the OE boards I was somewhat disappointed when I ran a quick testdrive. I never really liked how the tremolo or chorus section sounds when I switch the tab of that section on (the sound color changes by just enabling it, without even switching chorus or tremolo on. I hoped it would just be a calibration issue, but unfortunately it wasn't.
Well, the good side is, since that IG00150 died on the PRA and the OE1 board has two of them, so I conveniently had some spare parts I could use. :)
